Oviatt Library Lobby
The Oviatt Library celebrates the end of its five-year, $1.6 million U.S. Department of Education Title V Developing Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSI) Program grant with an exhibit highlighting collections from the Library’s Urban Archives Center. Curated by Robert Marshall, Head Archivist, and Dr. Karin Durán, Chicana/o Studies Librarian.

March - May 2007. Featured the work of Richard Glatzer & Wash Westmoreland, Kevin Rafferty and Richard Castaniero. Discussion sessions followed. See Festival del Cine 2007 flier (PDF) for program details.
October - December 2006. Included in the festival were La Ofrenda: The Days of the Dead, Fear and Learning at Hoover Elementary, and The Panama Deception. Screenings were followed by discussions moderated by CSUN faculty from Chicana/o Studies and Central American Studies. See Festival del Cine 2006 flier (PDF) for program details
September - October, 2005. Festival del Cine 2005 included film presentations highlighting works by Latino writers and directors. Screenings were followed by a discussion of the work moderated by CSUN faculty from Chicana/o Studies and Central American Studies, with special guest speakers. September 7 - October 29, 2004. Exhibition featured unique documents, photographs, posters, and other cultural objects from prominent Latino/Chicano community leaders and organizations. An opening reception was held on September 14, 2004, in the Tseng Gallery of the Oviatt Library. Dr. Karin Durán, Chicana/o Studies Librarian delivered the keynote remarks. On September 15, 2004, a lecture and panel discussion was held in the Library Presentation Room, featuring a panel of distinguished CSUN faculty author/scholars, including: Professors Jorge Garcia, Rudy Acuña, Juana Mora, Mary Pardo, Denise Sandoval, and David Díaz. Dr. Garcia discussed the exhibit and its significance. Faculty authors/scholars discussed their research process and signed copies of their books, which were available for purchase. brochure.
May - June 2004. A small exhibit featuring pieces from the collection of ground-breaking Latino comedic theatre troupe, Culture Clash (Richard Montoya, Ric Salinas, and Herbert Sigüenza) was displayed in the lobby of the Oviatt Library. Culture Clash donated their collection of drafts of scripts, playbills, original art work, and other items to the Oviatt Library at California State University, Northridge. In honor of the group's 20th anniversary of their founding, the exhibit opened on May 5, 2004. Highlighting the opening was a performance by Culture Clash featuring scenes from selected plays, which was held on the steps of the Oviatt Library. The exhibit ran through June 30, 2004 and a virtual exhibit is available.
