Library NewsFrom the Desk of University Video Network (UVN):Our Music & Media Service Area, located on the 2nd floor, east wing, can transmit videotapes and DVDs directly to more than 200 classrooms and lecture halls on campus through the University Video Network (UVN). Nearly every general use classroom on campus is equipped with a television monitor or projector connected to the UVN. The instructor is in complete command by using the classroom telephone as the remote control (including play, fast-forward, stop, rewind and pause). Technical back-up support is available during all class hours. Music & Media has more than 8,300 videotapes and DVDs available for classroom viewing over the UVN. The material spans a wide variety of subjects ranging from historical documentaries to notable speeches, from Hollywood releases to Shakespeare. Faculty can schedule University Video Network classroom showings by calling (818) 677-2211 or by following the instructions described on the following web page: http://library.csun.edu/Library_Services/medsked.html. Best Seller Collection:The Library now offers a best seller collection based on the Los Angeles Times fiction and non-fiction best seller lists. The Friends of the Oviatt Library are generously supporting this new service. The collection is located just west of the 1st floor, Reference Desk and is available for check out to all Library card holders. The Best Seller Collection will be updated throughout the year. Teacher Curriculum Center (TCC):The Teacher Curriculum Center features a collection of teacher-oriented materials. It is located on the Lower Level of the Oviatt Library building, Room 26 (enter by using the stairwell near the Library Reference Desk on the 1st floor.) Included in the TCC’s collection are selected California state-adopted textbooks, the Sharon Fogarty Young Readers' Collection of children’s literature, CD-ROMs, educational games, curriculum guides, recordings, videotapes, and DVDs. Local area teachers may check out items by purchasing a special user card. Go to http://library.csun.edu/Collections/TCC/ for more information. Special Services for Persons with Disabilities:The Library and Students with Disabilities Resources have equipped four assistive technology rooms, located on the 1st floor, west wing, with a wide range of sophisticated hardware and software designed to increase access to Library resources for CSUN students with disabilities. In addition, wheelchair-accessible computer terminals and workstations are available throughout the Library to all persons with disabilities. A telephone and TTY keyboard for individuals who are hearing impaired is available next to the bottom of the Library’s first floor "down" escalator. Also, Library information, for those who are hearing impaired, is available via the Library’s TTY number (818) 677-7696.
