Library NewsFrom the Desk of Interlibrary Loan (ILL)In late 2005, the Oviatt Library launched a new pilot Interlibrary Loan program to improve and upgrade service. This pilot program includes web-based interlibrary loan access using Illiad software so that the campus community can more easily obtain articles, books, chapters of books, and dissertations not held in the Oviatt's collection. We would like to update you on its progress and clarify some questions you may have. Our improved ILL service has many enhanced features including 24 hour access from any computer with Internet access, self-tracking the progress of your requests, and desktop delivery of materials that are available electronically. So far, 1780 users have registered to access our online ILL services and we have been averaging about 1,000 borrowing requests per month. The Oviatt Library subsidizes most fees that the lending library may charge. However, because of budgetary constraints, limits have been set on the subsidies based on the previous years' spending patterns of our ILL users. From July 1, 2005 through June 30, 2006, faculty are allotted $400, graduate students $250, and CSUN staff $100. However, if your research requires an extensive use of our ILL services, please contact the Library's Associate Dean, Marianne Afifi (x2272 or marianne.afifi@csun.edu) to discuss possible alternatives and/or accommodations. Also, as a reminder, with these changes, subsidized ingenta accounts have been discontinued. Instead, to improve speed of delivery, access and cost-effectiveness, Interlibrary Loan searches a variety of sources for your request, including ingenta. We hope that those of you who have used our enhanced service have found that it facilitated your research and simplified your use of Interlibrary Loan. We invite those of you who have not yet tried it to do so. For more information about our new Interlibrary Loan service go to http://illiad.csun.edu/illiad/login/newservice.html. We of course welcome your feedback and questions. Please call (818) 677-2294 or email us at interlibrary.loan@csun.edu to leave your comments. Our Interlibrary Loan office is located in Oviatt Room 109. March 12, 2006 |
