August 21st - September 28th 2006, Oviatt Lobby
Los Angeles is the only major city in the world whose population is nearly evenly divided by a mountain range. Their still rising peaks can be seen through the front windows of the Oviatt Library.
This exhibit explored the diversity of plants and animals sustained by the multiple ecosystems of the Santa Monica Mountains. The display demonstrated how Native Americans flourished in this rich bounty and described the enticing hiking trails enjoyed by today’s explorers. It also told the heroic story of how community activism saved and protected the mountains for future generations.
Curated by Dean Arnold and Stephanie Ballard.
