Aaron Cohen was a real estate entrepreneur whose interest in music led him to become the leading biographical authority on women composers. He donated his personal music library to the University in 1988. It consists of 387 books, scores, and pamphlets, 468 sound recordings of works by women composers, and 4800 research files used for his International Encyclopedia of Women Composers (2nd ed. 1987).
The books are fully cataloged and entered on the University Library's online catalog. They can be retrieved under the title heading Cohen Collection as well as by author, title, and subject. The sound recordings are grouped under the title heading Cohen Collection Recordings. The research files (unprocessed) are arranged alphabetically by the composer's last name.
