History

The stone houses in the northeast part of the San Fernando Valley below the Tujunga wash were constructed in the 1920s from the native stone debris.  The Stonehurst neighborhood was built from the local river rock during this time.  It is located in the Sun Valley area of the San Fernando Valley.  A local artist and stone mason, Dan Montelongo, built many of the Stonehurst houses.  The area has been designated a Historical Preservation Overlay Zone (HOZ) by the city of Los Angeles.
