The Oviatt Library has a physical collection containing 1.4 million volumes, of which over one million are books, and nearly 250,000 bound periodical volumes. The Library subscribes to 29,000 online journals, 1,600 print journals, 200 online databases and 16,700 ebooks. The microform collection contains 3.1 million pieces. There are over 13,200 sound recordings, 11,300 film and video recordings and nearly 60,000 pictures and other graphic materials. The archives and manuscript collection exceeds 4,200 linear feet of materials.

Supplementing our physical collection, especially for periodicals, but increasingly for books as well, is an array of electronic databases providing access to indexing and in many cases texts on a 24/7 basis from on or off campus.

Most of our periodicals before 1990 and approximately half of our books are housed in an Automated Storage and Retrieval System (ASRS) within the Library. Retrieval of these items can be requested in our Catalog, and delivery is typically within ten minutes of the request.

Shelving for monographic books is on the second and third floors of the Library, with periodicals and microforms on the fourth floor. The links to the upper right lead to descriptions of our specialized collections and service points.
