Titles of all magazines, journals, serials and newspapers owned by the Library are listed, along with the Library of Congress call number and location information (FLOOR, MICRO, RBR, etc.) necessary for finding them, in the Library Catalog

Periodicals Service Desk

The Periodicals Service Desk is located on the fourth floor, east wing. If you are having difficulty finding or obtaining a particular issue or volume, you may ask for assistance here, or at the Reference Desk.

Bound Periodicals

Older issues of magazines and journals are bound into volumes and are shelved on the fourth floor in call number order. These are arranged in the same manner as are books. Pre-1990 volumes of most journals are stored in the ASRS, and may be retrieved. The Catalog will show you if any years of a title are in the Microform Area or the Reserve Book Room. Use the Library Catalog to request stored volumes; stored periodicals will be delivered to the Periodicals/Microform service desk, fourth floor east wing.

Current Periodicals & Newspapers

These are found in the Periodicals/Microform room, fourth floor east wing. Recent issues of magazines and journals are shelved in call number order. Back issues of newspapers are retained for several months until they are discarded or until the microform subscription copies arrive. Retention length differs with each title.

Print indexes to periodical articles, newspaper articles, reviews and other newsprint items are located in the Reference Room of the Oviatt Library. Online indexes are available in the library and remotely. Check Databases A-Z for specific citation indexes.

Full text of many magazine, journal and newspaper articles is also available on some of the Library's index databases.

For newspapers of historical interest, see the Newspaper section of the CSUN Library's Guide to Microform.
