Special Features

Personal Accounts allow you to save records and searches and receive weekly e-mail alerts. Register for a personal account or sign-in on the Quick Search or Expert Search pages.

RSS: On the Results page, click the icon to generate a URL for a search-specific RSS feed you can add to your RSS reader.

Use the Browse Indexes links to find, for example, the exact subject terms or author-name spellings used in the database. Add a term to your search automatically by checking a box next to an entry in the index.

Use NEAR or ONEAR to search for terms in proximity. ONEAR specifies the exact order of terms; adding a slash and a number specifies the proximity of the terms. For example, avalanche ONEAR/ diodes will retrieve all instances in which avalanche precedes diodes, with no more than one word in between. (Cannot be used with truncation, wildcards, parenthesis, braces or quotation marks.)

The Expert Search page allows you to further customize your search by manually typing in search codes listed on the Expert Search screen, combining search limits using parentheses.

For example: (window wn TI AND sapphire wn TI) OR Sakamoto, K* wn AU will find entries that have either window and sapphire in the title field or Sakamoto, K* in the author field.
