Your Gift Makes a Difference
The Library's mission is to support the academic programs of the University. In order to accomplish this mission, we must have a dynamic collection that will serve the needs of the faculty and the students. As new courses are added, or existing ones shift focus, the Library must be able to respond by purchasing new materials in support of these changes.
Your gift will allow us to continue to meet the needs of our students and faculty by giving us additional flexibility in purchasing the most needed of books, electronic resources, journals, and other Library materials.
How to Give

Donate a Book a Year
A donation of $60.00 will buy one book. A bookplate will be placed in the front of the book with your name or the name of someone you would like to remember or honor.
Adopt a Journal
We need many donations for journals, from all disciplines. A minimum of 2 years subscription is required. Donor names will be placed with the journal.
Adopt a Database
There are many new databases which are really needed by our students. If you support a database, your name will appear each time a student accesses that database. If a company donates a database, the company name will appear when used by students. The cost of databases vary.
Endow a Subject Collection
Any of our subject collections are available for naming with a gift of $25,000 in an endowment. This gift may be paid over a 5 year period. The collection will then carry your name, such as the “Smith Shakespeare Collection” or the “Jones Accounting Collection,” and a plaque will be placed in the stacks with your name. Interest from your endowment will purchase new books in your collection, and each of the books will have a specially designed bookplate with your name.
Membership
Membership in Friends of the CSUN Library is $60.00 a year ($35.00 for Seniors over 60), and includes Library check-out privileges. The Friends are very active in supporting events such as book sales, speakers, and exhibitions. Meet people with interests similar to your own.
Donate a Leaf, Acorn or Stone on the Tree of Friends
The Tree offers permanent recognition of supporters on the wall in the Library Exhibit Gallery. A donation of $500 for a leaf, $1,000 for an acorn, and $2,000 for a stone will go toward the General Collections Endowment. Many alums and parents of students have donated to the Tree, as well as those honoring the memory of parents or friends.
The Library puts on exhibits throughout the year, and needs sponsors to fund mounting, printing, and mailing costs. A $5,000 gift will sponsor an exhibit, and will receive full recognition in all exhibit publicity. Smaller gifts will acknowledge the donor as a co-sponsor.
Make a Gift to The Library Endowment
This endowment has been established to support the Library’s collections and services, and to assure that there will be funds in the future to purchase books, journal subscriptions, and databases. The Library spends only the interest, so your gift will always be a part of the endowment.
Start Your Own Endowment
This is a way to build your own gift over the years, with the funds going toward a Library need that you choose. A $25,000 gift will start your Endowment, and may be paid over 5 years. The principal is never touched, only the interest is spent. You may continue to contribute through the years, building your endowment to a higher level, and knowing your original gifts will be there in perpetuity.
The new Learning Commons, each Library wing, and all floors of the Library are available for naming. Permanent naming opportunities begin at $10,000 for study rooms, with many other naming opportunities available.
In addition to cash, stock and other securities, gifts to the Library may include real estate, books, works of art, or patent rights. In addition, various planned gift vehicles, such as charitable remainder trusts, charitable lead trusts, annuities, and others can supply you a lifetime income, and may make sense for you.
