Tips for Finding Sources of Reliable Statistics

  • Only a core group of organizations (most frequently government agencies, particularly United States federal government agencies) collect, analyze, and publicly publish available statistical data on a regular basis.
  • Think about which agency or oganization would have cared about statistics on the subject and how, as well as from whom, the data could have been collected.
  • A list of major federal agencies that collect statistics, with descriptions of the statistics they provide and links to their websites, is available via FedStats
