MUS 307/309/310: Overview

The library has many resources for non-Western and traditional American music. For your project, you need academic books and journals, along with encyclopedia entries, all available at the library.


You can start with the Garland Encyclopedia of World Music. There are print copies in the library and it's also available electronically. To find other sources, check out the bibliography at the end of the article on your topic.
For example, if you're reading about film music in Japan, here are the References/Bibliography:

If you want to find one of these sources, search by title (either of the journal or the book) in the catalog.

To find other books on your subject, search in the catalog.

For example, you could search on cajun and music, like this:

You can send a text message to yourself so you have the call number and other information.

If you want to find more books like this, you can click on any of the subject headings, such as Folk music -- United States -- History and criticism.

To start your citation, you can click on Cite This Title.

If a book is checked out, you can place a hold on it by entering your Portal ID and password:

If a book is in storage, click on Request and the book will be waiting for you at the Circulation Desk within 5-10 minutes.
