Welcome to the Oviatt Library Electronic Reserve Service. This service will
allow you to put your items (articles, book chapters, solutions, etc.) on
the web for your students to access. Items placed on Electronic Reserve will
be password protected and available only to students enrolled in your class.
They will find your material by going to the Course Reserve link on the Library
Online Catalog. These guidelines will help you prepare your material for the
best possible results.
Placing Items on Electronic Reserve
- Please complete the Reserve Request Form and submit it with your Electronic
Reserve material. Include both author and title for each entry. This information
will appear on the Course Reserve web site.
- Submit material at least one week before needed for class.
- Please submit two copies to ensure one week processing. One copy will
be placed on the library shelf for traditional "Paper Reserve" checkout,
while the other copy is being scanned for Electronic Reserve.
- Since the Electronic Reserve scanner uses an automatic document feeder,
submitted items must be photocopied on 8 1/2 x11 paper.
- We recommend that a bibliographic citation be included on each item.
- We will need to break down Course Readers with multiple articles into
separate sections for online access. If you submit a Course Reader, please
supply a detailed numbered Table of Contents including Title and/or Author
to help your students navigate the reader online. Your table of contents
will appear as your first page.
Course Password
- To comply with Fair Use protocol, a Course Password will be assigned to
each of your courses using Electronic Reserve. Your students will need the
password to access your electronic materials.
- Your course password will consist of the last four numbers in the barcode
attached to your Reserve Request Form.
- Please copy the password when you fill out the Request Form and provide
to your students. Reserve Services will not release your password to students.
- One password will be issued for each course. If you add additional readings
to this course in the future, you will use your original Course Password.
For Best Results
- The better your copy, the better the final image. A clean, crisp, straight
copy will yield best results. Check to see that text is not cut off. We
may need to send copies not suitable for scanning back for resubmission.
- Please specify if certain pictures/graphs/tables are critical for the
reading.
- Material will normally be scanned in black & white. If color is necessary,
please let us know.
- Documents may also be submitted as Word or PDF files on disk or via email
to librbr@csun.edu. Please also submit
a paper copy for Paper Reserve and a Reserve Request Form.
