California State University, Northridge Grant Resources

• The CSUN Faculty Development web site contains links to various campus resources on grants, including:
  • The Office of Research and Sponsored Projects, which assists CSUN faculty members in obtaining extramural funding from federal, state, corporate, and foundation sponsored programs.
  • The CSUN Annual Research and Creative Activity Awards, which are administered by the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs.
  • The Judge Julian Beck Learning-Centered Instructional Projects (“Beck Grants”) and Probationary Faculty Support Program grants administered by Faculty Development.
• Colleges and Departments. Talk to the Dean of your College and/or your Department Chair about your research plans and ideas for grants. Sometimes amounts of money can be found in the budget for worthy instructional projects and/or support can be given to faculty to prepare a grant application for external funding.
• Oviatt Library has books about research grants, foundations, etc. Use the Library Catalog to identify and locate them.

• GuideStar. Searchable database of more than 850,000 IRS-recognized nonprofit organizations.
• Catalog of Nonprofit Literature (Foundation Center) is a searchable database of the literature of philanthropy which identifies articles about proposal development and other grant related topics.
• Grants.gov to find and apply for federal grants.
• Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance
• Federal Resources Organized by Topic (GPO Access)

• Internet Search Engines can be used to find other grant-related sites on the Internet.

• Professional associations may also fund research and innovative projects. An example is American Library Association, which offers a list of its Grants and Fellowships.

• National Endowment for the Humanities
• California Arts Council. An example of a state agency that funds programs and research in its area of interest. Consider all disciplines and organizations that would be interested in a specific proposal when you identify potential grant sources.
