The Oviatt Library welcomes on and off-campus groups to schedule tours of the Library. We receive many requests throughout the year for tours, and we make every effort to accommodate as many requests as possible. Please review the Oviatt Library tour policy below before contacting Reference & Instructional Services at 677-2277 or Lynn Lampert, 677-7104.

We are happy to work around your schedule, but out of respect for our students at exam time, tours are not available the last three weeks of the semester.

CSUN student groups

Tours are often provided as part of new student orientation. Other campus groups can request two kinds of tours. A tour of the building and collections lasts 20-30 minutes. A tour with a short introduction to using the Library Catalog and other Library resources lasts about 45 minutes.

For groups of 20 or less, please schedule your tour at least two weeks in advance. For groups of more than 20 more than one librarian is needed for the tour, so please schedule your tour at least four weeks in advance so that proper staffing can be arranged.

Non-CSUN students, including high schools, middle schools, and elementary schools

Tour groups made up of non-CSUN students may also request a tour of the building and collections. Tours for non-CSUN students last 20-30 minutes. In order for tours to be useful, tour groups may not exceed 20 students. If the group will be bigger than 20 students, please contact the library at least four weeks in advance so that we can arrange to have enough librarians to conduct the tours.

For groups in eighth grade or younger, one adult supervisor must accompany every 10 students.
