The Oviatt Library welcomes on and off-campus groups to schedule library tours. Tours can be tailored to meet the needs of each tour group and enable students and community members to see the state-of-the art facility which houses a physical collection containing 1.4 million volumes. We receive many tour requests throughout the year and we make every effort to accommodate them.
Please review the Oviatt Library tour policy below before contacting Reference & Instructional Services (677-2277) or Coleen Martin (677-6396 / email@example.com) to arrange a tour.
We are pleased to provide tours throughout most of the school year; however, tours are not available during the last three weeks of the semester due to study schedules during final exams.
CSUN student groups
Tours are often provided as part of new student orientation. Other campus groups can request two kinds of tours. A tour of the building and collections lasts approximately 45 minutes. A tour with a short introduction to using the Library Catalog and other Library resources lasts about 75 minutes.
When booking a tour for groups of 20 or less, please contact the Library at least two weeks in advance to make arrangements. For groups of more than 20, please schedule your tour at least four weeks in advance so proper staffing can be arranged.
Non-CSUN students, including high schools, middle schools, and elementary schools
School Participation Policy
K-12 and other non-CSUN teachers or instructors who request and participate in Library tours are expected to:
- Provide the Oviatt Library with intended goals for their Library tour;
- Complete an online survey about their student’s experiences at the Library and the ways in which the visit fulfilled the intended goals. Survey results will be used to improve future programming and for promotional purposes to communicate the Oviatt Library’s outreach activities to the campus community and the public.
Tours for non-CSUN students last approximately 45 minutes. In order to ensure the best possible experience, tour groups may not exceed 20 students. Please schedule a tour for groups of 20 or less at least two weeks in advance. If your group will be larger than 20 students, please contact the library at least four weeks in advance to make appropriate arrangements. For groups in the eighth grade or younger, one adult chaperone must accompany every 10 students. All other groups must have at least one adult chaperone per 20 students.
