The University Library is pleased to announce a series of events which will run throughout the month of February, 2016. Black History Matters: Celebrate Black History Month at the University Library features special events, performances, exhibitions, new web content, and workshops. We will also be having a raffle contest on this page that will test your knowledge of Black History (with a $50 Matamoney prize).
We are excited to have a variety of events which include some great speakers. On February 2nd, we will have one of CSUN's own professors, Dr. Josh Sides speak on the history of South Central Los Angeles. Dr. Amina Hassan, and Judge Robin Miller will speak about the legacy of Loren Miller, a noted civil rights attorney and journalist.
In addition, we will have a wonderful exhibit here in our Library Exhibit Gallery: Historicizin' & Contemporizin' the Black Aesthetic, with an opening reception on February 10th. We will also have a workshop experience with our Wikipedia Edit-a-thon, where librarians will help you learn to edit Wikipedia, and contribute to the scope and content of Black History and the African Diaspora.
As well, in the Library we will be hosting a student performance from the group Vocal ARTillery, and another performance with the CSUN Gospel Choir. And online, will be Special Collections & Archives blog devoted to Black History throughout the month, and our Digital Collections hosts our Bradley Center Digital Exhibit.
