Market Share

To find market share for a company, use our Market Share Reporter online resource here. Enter the company’s name or the industry into the quick search box on the left. You can also use the Advanced search link at the top of the page.

You can also use Business Source Elite to find market share. Enter the name of your company or product in the first search box. In the second search box, enter MARKET, MARKET SHARE or other similar terms. Experiment with some of the subject terms in the articles by entering them in a search box and changing the drop box to SUBJECT.

S&P NetAdvantage provides some market share information in its industry surveys. To find it, click INDUSTRY at the top and then search by the company’s ticker symbol.

Market segmentation

You will need to look in several places to see what’s available for your company. Here are my tips:

Factiva: try the following search: strateg* and wc>500 and atleast10 company name, (e.g., strateg* and wc>500 and atleast10 mcdonalds). Adjust the search with different word counts (wc>n) or mentions of the company name (atleastn) to expand or restrict results.

You can also try this:

Click on Companies & Markets>Companies>Type in Company Name>Reports>Detailed Company Profile Report>Custom Report.

Choose the appropriate categories.

Business Source Elite: search strategic planning in the SU field and the company name in the CO field. To broaden results, search only on the company name or use the term strateg* without specifiying a field. Experiment with other terms (e.g., interviews, new products).

ABI/INFORM Complete: choose the DATA & REPORTS tab at the top of the screen. Then enter your company name in one box enter a term like “market segmentation” or “segment size” in the second box.
