New Grant: The Augustine Foundation has given the Library a $27,500 grant to help set up a finders guide for the International Guitar Research Archive (IGRA). The IGRA is under the direction of Professor Emeritus Ron Purcell and is part of Special Collections. The collection contains guitar music prints, guitar journals and correspondence relating to the history of the guitar in the United States from 1880 to the present. Artists featured in the collection are Andres Segovia, Vahdah Olcott-Bickford, Randy Rhoads, Laurindo Almeida, and Vicente Gomez. http://www.csun.edu/~igra/.

New Librarians: We are pleased to announce the hiring of two new Librarians:

Alan Schroeder is a new business librarian responsible for finance, law, accounting, systems and operations management, business law, insurance, management information systems, and real estate. Alan received his MLS from UCLA, and an MPA from USC. He previously worked for the Wal-Mart Inc. Realty Group in Bentonville, Arkansas, where he was the manager of Wal-Mart’s Real Estate Library and Electronic Real Estate Library. Alan has also worked as a librarian for USC and the City of Santa Fe Springs.

Stephanie Ballard is the librarian responsible for psychology, educational psychology, counseling, and child and adolescent development. Stephanie received her MLS degree from the University of Kentucky, and an M.Ed. in Community Health from the University of Cincinnati. She has worked as an educator for the Northern Kentucky District Health Department and taught health education at Northern Kentucky University.

Wireless Connectivity: The Library now has 20 wireless enabled laptops and 20 wireless cards available for checkout within the Library by students, faculty and staff from the Collaboratory Computer Lab on the 3rd floor, east wing. Wireless network connectivity is available throughout the Library. Additional information about the CSUN wireless network is available at: http://www.csun.edu/wireless/.

“Think Drink”: The Library is now permitting patrons to bring beverages into the Library, but only bottled water or non-alcoholic beverages contained in a “Think Drink” spill-proof mug. This policy change will allow everyone their beverage while still protecting the Library’s collection, furniture, computers and carpet. The University Corporation will sell the mugs at all campus outlets that serve drinks. The mugs sell for $3.99 (plus tax), and may be refilled with a 10% discount on the listed drink price.

Donations: A total of 18,151 books and 5,032 other materials (videos, software, CD’s, audio recordings and miscellaneous items such as maps and journals) were donated to the Library last year. Many items were donated by University faculty and staff. If you are retiring and would like to donate your books to the Library, please contact Vickie Campbell at x2638.

New Reader/Printers: The Library has recently acquired three new microform reader/printers that read both microfilm and microfiche. They can provide multiple copies of the same document or copy just one segment of a page. The machines are located on the 4th floor, east wing of the Library in the Periodicals & Microfilm area.
