Asking to be added to Moodle

Example phrasing from CBM:
I would also like to ask that you add me to your Moodle course as a librarian under the Assign Roles option in the Administration block. I am interested in being embedded in courses and have been collaborating with Academic Technology since Moodle is now the campus LMS. In the librarian role, I can answer research/library related questions in a discussion forum, create resource pages for your class, and perform other tasks as agreed upon in consultation with you.

What do to when embedded
  • Create an Ask the Librarian forum, where students can ask you questions. To get emails when someone posts in the forum (so you don't have to constantly check it), go to the forum and click on the Subscribe to this forum link that appears in the upper right.
  • If there's an introductions thread, post an introduction for yourself and give your contact information.
  • Use the embed function from xerxes to embed a list of databases/resources to help students with an assignment (either as part of the assignment itself or in a separate html page/forum posting - check with the instructor). Embedding instructions
  • Use the news forum to remind students about upcoming library instruction session visits.
  • If you do a one-minute paper at the end of class, post answers to questions students still had (in the news forum or ask a librarian forum).
For online classes
  • Use Elluminate to give a library instruction session (requires a synchronous session - check with instructor to see if there is a meeting time assigned for the class).
  • Embed tutorials (either existing or a custom one for the class).
Test Course To request a test Moodle course, send an email to ftc@csun.edu requesting one.
