Special Notice to Friends of the Oviatt Library

You are cordially invited to join us in the Friends Book Store (first floor of the West Wing) every Wednesday between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. for coffee and cookies. It will be an opportunity to visit with fellow members and to welcome potential new members while browsing among the many books and other articles we have available for purchase in the store.

The Friends

The Friends of the Oviatt Library was founded so that members of the community may become active participants in the Library at California State University, Northridge.

Since its beginnings in 1956, CSU Northridge has rapidly grown into one of the largest universities in California. The Library has grown in size and prestige along with the campus. In order to assure the continued quality of the Library's collection, and to extend the cultural resources of the Library into the community, the Friends of the Oviatt Library group has been established.

Activities

The Friends is a volunteer, non-profit organization dedicated to supporting and enhancing the resources of the Oviatt Library. Among many other activities, the Friends organize fund-raising events, hold book sales, support volunteer activities and encourage gifts and endowments.

Benefits

When you join the Friends at the level of General Member or above, you will have the privilege of borrowing books and other materials from the Oviatt Library. Some resources are restricted. Ask at the Library for a Visitor's Guide, or call (818) 677-2638.

You will also receive invitations to Library events and meet other community members who share your interest in books, in knowledge, and in your commitment to the improvement of the community's cultural resources.

More importantly, you will have the satisfaction of knowing that your membership contribution is being used to buy books and other materials, to purchase needed equipment, to sponsor exhibits, and to provide cultural programming.
