Carcassi, Mateo (1792-1853)

Carcassi was born in Florence, Italy in 1792 and died in Paris, January 16, 1853. Little is known of his early musical development until 1808. At this time his popularity in Italy grew through frequent concert appearances and by the time he turned twenty-eight he moved to Paris and gave concerts and began publishing his original works for the guitar. He continued the life style of a concert artist touring throughout Europe and England each year along with teaching and publishing. Carcassi wrote over 80 works for the guitar publishing many of them with Meissonnier.
