Biography

Robert StrizichRobert Strizich has composed works for orchestra, chorus, chamber ensembles, solo instruments and electroacoustic media, many of which are published by Bèrben Editore, Christine Paquelet Edition Arts, Drake Mabry Publishing, Éditions Doberman-Yppan, Fallen Leaf Press and Turquoise Guitar Editions.He has fulfilled commissions from various soloists, ensembles, arts organizations and dance companies, and his music has been performed in the United States, Europe, and South America.

Robert Strizich has also led a parallel career as a guitarist, performing in particular on the baroque guitar and lute.As an early music specialist, he has concertized extensively as a soloist, accompanist and ensemble player in both the USA and Europe, and has recorded for Doberman-Yppan, EMI, Intrada, Musical Heritage Society, MusicMasters, Titanic, 1750 Arch Records.He is also noted for his complete editions of the guitar works of Robert de Visée and Gaspar Sanz (published by Heugel and Doberman-Yppan, respectively).

Strizich studied music at the University of California at Berkeley, where he earned a B.A. in music and an M.A. in composition.A Hertz Fellowship from UC Berkeley enabled him to spend several subsequent years in Switzerland, studying at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Basel. After returning to the USA, he completed a Ph.D. in composition at UC San Diego, where his teachers included Robert Erickson, Bernard Rands, and Roger Reynolds.The author of various papers on music theory and performance practice, Strizich has taught composition, music theory, music history and performance at Wellesley College, Trinity College (Hartford), the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, UC Santa Cruz and California State University, Fresno.

His donation to IGRA of 16th through 18th century manuscripts and printed works has assisted in filling a gap in the archives of two important historical periods – The Renaissance and Baroque.
