The definition of world music, as used by the CSUN Library is "
... popular musical works combining traditional rhythms from around the
world with elements of jazz and rock". Locating books, periodical
articles and sound recordings may be accomplished by using the online
catalog for these items. This is NOT meant to be an exhaustive list
of all the references for world music. It is intended to be a
listing of some of the current editions of standard/major reference
sources - Reference Room items mostly - which will hopefully lead
the researcher to more/other sources on world music. The subject
headings given are the Library of Congress (LC) subject
headings - rather the Dewey Decimal (public libraries, etc.) - used
more so in academic (university/college) libraries than in
public/special or conservatory libraries. Becoming familiar
with whichever terminology/subject headings are in use at the
library/facility where you are conducting your research, will
aid you considerably with your search.
