[Research Tips for Nursing students at CSUN]
The following is intended to be just a PARTIAL list of journal titles that nursing students might need and that CSUN has readily available either in paper or electronically. For example, CSUN Library subscribes to Journal of School Health which is of interest to nursing, but it's indexed for Health Education. CSUN subscribes to many medical journals that are also NOT included in the following partial list. You can look up which journals we get electronically by using our CSUN List of Electronic Journals It is also worthwhile to look up journal titles in OnLine Catalog Remember we have a expanding list of journals you can read online. Full text nursing and medical journals are available electronically on Lexis-Nexis, InfoTRAC, EbscoHost and Dow Jones Interactive. The World Wide Web also has a growing list of free nursing and health journals some with full text articles. For example, the Electronic journal showcase -Medicine & Health offers a suggested search in PubMed for free online articles in key journals. There is also Jake search enginewhich gives information about e-resources (including online journals, databases, search interfaces, and textbooks) and how they relate to each other. What if the journal title is NOT in the University Library Catalog?

There is a free internet directory, called Search Jake. Search Jake allows look up by journal title to identify where the journal is indexed, if it is available full text and in what database, and from what dates. CSUN University Library owns the full text databases linked to the left of this box. Search Jake does not include Dow Jones yet.

Please realize there are some full text articles from some Nursing journals on the WWW, but most do not offer every article. Using the database CINAHL will lead you more reliably to articles written in peer-reviewed journals. If CSUN doesn't own, either in paper or online check out

or request articles on Interlibrary Loan. Allow three weeks for Interlibrary Loan. Allow 24-72 hours for subsidized CINAHL document delivery for CSUN nursing students
Ventura students - need to indicate you are a Ventura student when requesting an ILL. Ventura students can get books and journal articles CSUN does own delivered to the Ventura Library in addition to the Interlibrary Loan service all students can use.
