Assignment:

Answer the questions on the right using the appropriate database from the list of databases listed below

  • Mayco ceramic glaze, clear --Is it safe for a plate or bowl? What substitute if needed?
  • Do you use household products that contain Benzene?
  • Does Manganese have any Health effects? What occupations have exposure to Managanese? Also do research on the health effects of a job of your choice.
  • Look up the summary of any 1 compound and report if it is dangerous or not. Here are some suggestions for compounds to lookup in HSDB
    • cobalt
    • cadmium
    • glyphosate
    • 2,4-D

Pubmed (Offers Medline (currently indexing over 5,000 journals), several molecular biology, chemical, and toxicology databases. Some full text journals and books, 1950-) - link to CSUN Library's to use Find text http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?otool=cacsunlib FindText --Pubmed offers links into Toxnet, Consumer Health, NLM gateway which will direct you into the Household Products Database.
