The goals of the library sessions are:
- Learn How to do Library and Internet research: determine information need, choose best resources, develop a search strategy, understand keyword and subject searching, how to use boolean operators and truncation symbols, how to cite sources, and more. Learn how to identify scholarly articles.
- Learn how to use the Library Catalog and the CSUN List of Electronic Journals to find books and journals on your topic. Following is an example of a catalog record for an online journal
- Learn how to use Find Articles
- Learn about Multisearch
- Search up to ten (10) databases at a times
- Save records in your folder if you login
- Learn about authoritative websites such as:
- MedlinePlus at http://medlineplus.gov/ offers information on over 700 health topics, as well current health news, and much more in various formats including interactive tutorials and videos.
- remember to evaluate Internet website by looking at the domain extensions to help determine authority and objectivity. A more complete list of two- and three- letter URL extensions is also available.
- .gov Government. The intent of the site is to present official information collected by or about the workings of a government.
- .edu Educational institution. The intent of the site is to educate as well as present information collected by or about the educational institution.
- .com Commercial. The intent of the site is to sell goods or services, as well as provide information about the company.
- .org Organization, usually non-profit. The intent of the site is to present information collected by or about the organization. Sometimes, the intent of the site is to promote a particular point of view.
- .net Network, usually personal Web pages. The intent of the site is as varied as the individual(s) responsible for the content.


Searching directly in Health Reference Center Academic will offer separate tabs to help identify academic journals, news articles, and give help in citing using different citation styles

Information Sources: Health Sciences offers links to several databases as well as links to Health Sciences Librarian, Lecture notes and other research guides
Multisearch will search up to 10 databases at the same time. Also offers a My Saved Records folder if you log in with your CSUN ID and same password you use for your CSUN email
