Assignment: Learn how to find data-based articles in nursing databases, learn how to access public health
databases and morbidity, mortality, census, economic databases or websites for Antelope Valley.

The goals of the library sessions are:

• Learn How to do Library and Internet research: determine information need, choose best resources, develop a search strategy, understand keyword and subject searching, how to use boolean operators and truncation  symbols, how to cite sources, and more.
• Learn how to use the Library Catalog to find books and journals( Periodicals).  
• 
• Ways to find peer reviewed articles and statistics using:
  • Cinahl (Cumulative Index to Nursing Literature) , Academic Search Elite both on EbscoHost,
  • InfoTRAC databases including the Health Reference Center
  • Proquest databases.
  • RAND California provides easy access to statistics about California; some databases cover the entire United States. Hint- type in 'zip code' on Rand's Search this website, to see links which give zip code statistics
• Learn how to use Health Sciences Multisearch to search up to 10 databases simultaneously and save records to an electronic shelf using the same login as your CSUN email account.

• CSUN Oviatt Library Research guides and specific websites helpful for Community demographic information are:
  • Information about a Community, as well as San Fernando Valley Statistics and Facts and

  • Yahoo! Real Estate Neighborhood Profiles (Yahoo!) Includes demographics, cost of living, housing characteristics and selected quality of life data (climate, and indexes for air quality, crime, and culture) by Zip Code.
