Assignment
"Analyze two databased research or evidence based peer
reviewed journal articles related to school nursing and/or school health.
Publication date should be within the past 5 years unless it is a classic.
Current issues are:
- substance abuse in K-12 students,
- medication administration in schools,
- child abuse & reporting,
- student absenteeism related to health,
- infectious diseases, disaster preparedness in school"
The goals of the library sessions are:
- Learn How to do Library and Internet research: determine information need, choose best resources, develop a search strategy, understand keyword and subject searching, how to use boolean operators and truncation symbols, how to cite sources, and more.
- Learn to use CINAHL Plus with Full Text (EBSCO) - Indexes over 3,000 nursing and allied health journals, with cited references from 1,600 journals; provides full-text access to many journals and other sources, 1937- present. - Learn about
Health Reference Center ( Gale) -Indexes over 900 health and allied health journals with full text articles in 686 journals, 1980-
- Learn about Education databases such
ERIC (CSA)-Abstracts 775 education journals, ED reports, 1966- present and Education Full Text (Wilson) - Articles from over 550 education journals; indexing 1983-, abstracts 1994-, select full text 1996-
- Learn about Cochrane Library (Wiley) - Several evidence based medical databases, with protocols, controlled trials, and full-text reviews.
- Learn about Find text links
in databases and in
Health Sciences Multisearch
- Learn how to use Information Sources: Health Sciences to identify useful databases, and work with Health Sciences Multisearch to search up to ten (10) databases simultaneously.
