Goals of the Library session are to address "all the nifty updates on the kinds of resources and help that the library now offers such as:
* EndnoteWeb to convert to APA
* Google Books that lets you look inside books
* reminder to look in ERIC for educational projects
* reminder of Evidence Based Practice sheets thru CINAHLPlus with FullText
* anything new since Fall 2007 and perhaps since Fall 2006.
- Library Catalog - new features - offers book jacket images, link to Google books when book is in Google books, and a link out to WorldCat http://www.worldcat.org to see additional libraries who own it, get help with How to Cite in WorldCat. Example of record with book jacket, link into Google books and link to WorldCat would be the recorfd for Lippincott manual of nursing practice
- PubMed ( Medline) has Advanced Search Beta which is very helpful in refining a search. Use CSUN's link http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?otool=cacsunlib so you can have access to
and identify if CSUN has a subscription
- MEDLINE (ISI) offers help with citing APA if you set up your free
EndNote Web account-Setup has to be done on campus http://library.csun.edu/restricted/endnote.scr , but once you establish an account, you can log into
EndNote Web from anywhere - http://www.myendnoteweb.com NOTE: MEDLINE (ISI) offers a different approach of viewing Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) than PubMed's MESH - MESH is the same, but the views are different. PubMed is free to you after you graduate. MEDLINE (ISI) is only available to currently registered CSUN students
- Google Scholar at http://scholar.google.com/ is free to you. You can configure so it will work with CSUN's Find Text. However Find Text in Google Scholar is a link labeled SFX.
To activate the capabilities for your browser, go to Scholar Preferences:
- In the box next to Library Links type "CSUN" and click Find Library.
- Check the box next to "CSU, Northridge (SFX Find It)"
- Scroll to the bottom of the page and click the Save Preferences button.
Click SFX: Additional Options or SFX: Find It for access to online full text, Oviatt Library holdings information, and Interlibrary Loan.
