Using the skills learned in today’s library research session, carefully select and retrieve no more than 5 articles to help research the following:
With the sequencing and processing of genes in the Human Genome Project, researchers have been able to identify genes associated with an increased risk of chronic diseases such as breast cancer. Screening for these breast cancer genes helps significantly in the primary prevention of the disease. Do such genes exist for lung cancer, that is, are certain people predisposed for lung cancer? If they do exist, what would you do as an epidemiologist to prevent and control this disease?
Read these articles and write a concise 3-4 page paper on this topic, citing your sources,
and append a page of references formatted APA style for your paper.

• Ways to find peer reviewed articles using Library databases
  • PubMed - in addition to indexing almost 5000 medical journals, there are links into freely availble Consume Health (MedlinePlus) resources, several genetic, chemical, full text jurnal and full text book resources. Be sure to use CSUN's link to PubMed which is http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?otool=cacsunlib This URL offers you the Find text icon which helps you identify if CSUN subscribes to the journal.
    • setup your own NCBI free account to store records and search strategies
    • learn about MeSH subject headings and subheadings
    • explore other links from PubMed-Consume Health offers MedlinePlus
    • Tutorials to show you how to search Pubmed
  • Cinahl (Cumulative Index to Nursing Literature) , Academic Search Elite both on EbscoHost--offers help in citing under Print, Email
  • InfoTRAC databases including the Health Reference Center -offers help with citing using Citation tools
• Health Science Multisearch allows you to search up to ten (10) databases simultaneously, and offers you an electronic shelf to save records from diverse databases using the same login you use for your CSUN email account.

• Learn about the link most of our databases offer and Register for CSUN's Interlibrary Loan for items our library does NOT have.

  Help is available for APA style in the EbscoHost, Thomson Gale Infotrac, Proquest, CSA databases as well as on the Find Text menus. In Find text remember to click on More Options -Click Save Citation Information, and use pull down menu to select APA, click go. Copy and paste the APA style for the record you were viewing.
