● Mary Woodley, Chair, welcomed attendees and brought the meeting to order.
● Attendees introduced themselves
● Mary informed us that Elizabeth Stewart-Marshall would be serving as LITA liaison to our committee, if approved by the ALCTS Board, which is appropriate given the cooperative programs the NRMC and LITA have enjoyed in the past.
● Mary distributed minutes from Midwinter. They were approved.
● Mary discussed the NRMC’s two programs,
“ISBDs: Do We Still Need Them?,” and “Metadata Harvesting: Using the Open Archives
Initiative Protocol to Expose the Deep Web.” Both are being held on Sunday at
● Mary reported on the 2004 program on metadata enrichment for subject access, which will be co-sponsored with SAC. The program will be based on the work Marcia Bates has performed for LC Action Item 2.3. Mary would like to invite Marcia to attend the NRMC midwinter meeting to brief us on her work.
● Mary reviewed the NRMC’s involvement in three LC Action Plan items: 1.3, Selection criteria for digitization (Woodley); 2.3, Metadata enrichment (Ahronheim); 5.3, Model of continuing education for teaching cataloging and metadata (Medeiros).

● Mary Woodley, Chair, welcomed attendees and brought the meeting to order.
● Attendees introduced themselves
● Mary informed the group that the ALCTS Board has decided to turn the NRMC into a special Interest Group. Much discussed ensued regarding the future of the group, the appointment process, the role of official titles vis-à-vis institutional funding, our listserv and web page.
● Mary reminded us of the day’s NRMC programs and encouraged us to attend.
● Mary reported on her meeting with the ALCTS Program Committee, at which she presented the ideas for the metadata enrichment program and the digital project preconference.
● Mary reported on the LC Action Item 1.3 task force, a RUSA-led initiative that looks at how digital projects are being performed in various communities. The URL for the white paper is http://www.msu.edu/~wellsat/sctf.html.
● Mary reported for Judy Ahronheim regarding the LC Action Item 2.3 task force to investigate metadata enrichment for subject access. Principal investigator Marcia Bates has finished her final draft report, which is available at http://worktools.si.umich.edu/workspaces/jaheim/001.nsf.
● Norm reported on the LC Action Item 5.3 task force on continuing education. Carol Hixson, chair of the group, finished the first draft of the report, which is available at http://darkwing.uoregon.edu/~chixson/cetf/CETFpublic.html.
● Mary reviewed the status of the Standards Bibliography updates.
