| A database that indexes and abstracts 750
journal titles (EJ) and thousands of reports and documents (ED)
in education. Every record is assigned subject headings, using the ERIC
Thesuarus. The CSUN library owns the ED reports on microfiche as well as owning
many of the journal titles. Articles we do NOT own can be requested by
CSUN faculty, students and staff through the Interlibrary Loan services on the
Eric on

| Indexes 1500+ social and behaviorial
science journals, . Each issue is divided into four major parts: (1) the
"Citation Index" - a listing of publications cited, with each citation
accompanied by a list of references citing it. Can determine how many times a
specific publication has been cited by other publications. (2) the "Source
Index" - a listing providing additional information about citers and citing
articles listed in the "Citation Index"; (3) the "Corporate Index" - a listing
of citers by organizational affiliation; and (4) the "Permuterm Subject Index"
- a computer produced alphabetical list indexing publications by key words
taken from the title of the publication. The "Permuterm Subject Index" is
particularly recommended when searching for references on a specific theory,

Monographs owned by the CSUN library are listed in the GEAC Advance Online Catalog. There are two versions of the online catalog. The Web version allows easy searching by author, title, subject phrases or by author, title, subject or general keywords. However, the current Web version does not allow patrons to use boolean searching, request items from storage, place holds, or see specific periodical holdings. It is possible to search the online catalog in the Oviatt reference room or from remote locations through the Internet.
Most titles are shelved under the Psychology classification numbers: BF1-BF839. See also Social Psychology HM251-HM299 and Psychriatry RC435-RC569.5
Other library's online catalogs can be accessed from the University Library Research Resources page, under Other Libraries Catalogs. Options include: Los Angeles Public Library, Other CSU Catalogs, MELVYL, which provides access to all the collections of the University of California, and WorldCat, which is a national catalog of monographs and periodicals. WorldCat allows online Interlibrary Loan requests.
To find specific journal artices in psychology, search PsycInfo and other abstracting and indexing databases. PsycInfo allows one to check if the journal title is owned by CSUN.
Periodicals owned by the CSUN library are listed in the GEAC Advance Online Catalog. There are two versions of the online catalog: telnet and Web. Periodicals can also be searched as a subset of the entire online catalog. Electronic journals may be searched through the Web interface.
Masters Theses written for the Department of Psychology are indexed by author, title, and the subject "Dissertations, Academic--CSUN Psychology" in GEAC Advance Online Catalog. All CSUN Psychology theses have the basic call number BF77 .Z95 [Year].
Dissertations Abstracts International. A. The Humanities and Social Sciences. Ann Arbor: University Microfilms, 1938- (REF Z5055 U5 A53)
Provides indexing to doctoral dissertations accepted by over 500 institutions participating in its microfilming program . Citations date from 1861 forward, author, title, abstract key word, and institutional searching is provided. DAI may be searched at any of the library Internet terminals (or from remote locations by connecting to First Search 2 and choosing "DISS". The online product provides abstracts only from 1980 forward. Printed counterpart former to 1995 are available.
Pro-Quest and Lexis-Nexis Primarily a full text service providing access to hundreds of newspapers, magazines and newsletters. Lexis-Nexis also contains full text "libraries" for United States and individual state laws, codes, and regulations; for business articles and company information; and for medical and pharmaceutical information. . For access to full text newspapers going back approximately ten years (coverage varies by individual newspaper), choose the library "NEWS" and make appropriate selection from succeeding menu. You can also specify a single newspaper search (e.g. LAT for Los Angeles Times, NYT for New York Times).
