Ms. Brenda Ramirez

San Jose State University
Corona, California

Brenda Ramirez is a graduate student in the Library and Information Science program at San Jose State University. She brings thirteen years of teaching experience to the field of Library and Information Studies, eight of these years at a Title I school. She holds a B.A. in Liberal Studies from California State University, Long Beach. In addition, she is a certified bilingual teacher with a BCLAD and Multi-Subject Teaching Credential. Her membership and involvement in ALA, CLA, LISSTEN and REFORMA demonstrate her commitment to the field and her leadership qualities. Following graduation, Ms. Ramirez is passionate about bilingual services, she hopes to continue her work with the Latino community and find an environment where she can put her Spanish language skills to work, she shared that she is "really glad to be part of the REFORMA family and looks forward to a career as your neighborhood bibliotecaria!”. Ms. Ramirez also provided a glimpse into her free time in which she enjoys watching Oprah, participating in art activities, listening to music, cooking, and dancing salsa.

Ms. Sally Gomez

Sally Gomez is a graduate student in the Library and Information Science program at San Jose State University. She works full time as a librarian trainee at a rural library branch in Fresno County serving a diverse population of Latinos. Upon graduation, Sally hopes to continue as the Orange Cove Branch Librarian where she hopes to develop programs for the Spanish speaking community. Sally holds an undergraduate degree in mass communications and journalism from California State University, Fresno. When she is not working or studying, she enjoys running and is currently training for the inaugural Two Cities Marathon in Fresno on November 9th, 2008.

Ms. Alexandria Godina

Alexandria Godina is a graduate student in Information Studies at University of California, Los Angeles. She works at Whittier Public Library and has taken on special library projects, such as the Dia De Los Muertos Celebration. While an undergraduate, Ms. Godina traveled to Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, and Peru as part of an independent studies program. Her travels and coursework in Chicano Studies will be valuable in serving the diverse Latino population within our community. After graduation, she plans to work at a public library with a specialization in multicultural education and youth services. Ms. Godina emphasizes the importance of programming and services for Latino communities, especially in traditionally underserved neighborhoods.

Mr. Edward Luna

San Jose State University
Perris, California

Mr. Luna is a graduate student in the Library and Information Science program at San Jose State University and holds a B.A. in English with emphases in Teaching and Creative Writing and a Minor in Sexuality Studies from University of California, Davis. Currently he is the resident techie and bilingual library assistant at the Moreno Valley Public Library. Mr. Luna is dedicated to promoting social justice and addressing issues of educational inequality. As an undergraduate, he worked as a community leader, student retention specialist, and language tutor for international scholars. His interest in libraries and librarianship was sparked by the fields many intersections with cultural studies, politics, technology, modern democracy, and law. Currently Mr. Luna’s research interests are the social impacts of library institutions and their policies with particular regard to children of immigrants and English Language Learners. Mr. Luna shared, creatively, that he looks “forward to all the travesuras he can get into with a MLIS”.
