Borrowing Print Books and Physical Media

While access to the University Library’s book stacks is still not available due to public health guidelines, current CSUN students, faculty (including Emeritus), and staff can request books and other circulating materials from our collections through OneSearch and receive them either through USPS mail service* or the Locker Pickup Service:

  1. Search for needed items in OneSearch, and click Sign in to sign into your OneSearch account
  2. In the record for the item you want, click Request and follow the on-screen instructions.
  3. Select Library Lockers or Home Address  from the Pickup Location menu.

* Notice: As of Thursday, July 1, 2021, the Library will no longer offer books by mail service, except to those needing accommodations, but will instead continue to circulate books via its Locker Pickup Service until the Library is able to fully re-open its stacks to users, hopefully by the fall 2021 semester.

Services for Alumni, Friends, and Other Community Members

While the Library building remains closed to all users except CSUN students for study and computer use only, beginning July 1, 2021, the Library is pleased to provide book checkouts to current members of the Friends of the Library and Legacy/Lifetime Alumni Association members.

Until the Library is fully reopened, which we expect will happen in the Fall 2021 semester, we invite you to explore the Library's OneSearch system to find “open access” electronic resources, University Library Digital Collections, ScholarWorks Open Access Repository (SOAR) of scholarship created by the CSUN community, and electronic government documents. See Alumni and Community for more information about services that will be available once the Library is fully open.

For public access to online books and other resources, if you are a Los Angeles resident, we encourage you to also visit the Los Angeles Public Library to access their extensive collections of electronic books, articles, streaming media, and more. In addition, many branches of LAPL libraries have reopened with limited services, including book checkouts. Similar services might be offered by your local library if you are not a Los Angeles resident. We appreciate your patience and understanding.
