Did You Know?University Library

The Learning Commons, on the main floor of the Library, offers PCs and iMacs for student use. iPad and laptops are available for check-out for four-day periods. Students have free wireless access to the campus network and the Internet. Group study rooms can be reserved online, two weeks in advance.

Secure charging lockers are available for students to use if they need to charge a device while it is unattended. Students simply plug their device into the power source within a charging locker, lock and go. There are many additional charging stations within the Learning Commons as well.

The Creative Maker Studio, on the main floor, offers students with access to specialized hardware and software in order to create videos, digital audio recordings, and robust multimedia projects. It also offers workshops that assist students in utilizing its state-of-the-art software.

Students can access the Library’s online resources remotely. They can find information from more than 200 databases containing magazine, newspaper and scholarly journal articles from any location. They can also access more than 570,000 ebooks using their CSUN User ID and Password.  (For more information on CSUN User ID and password, see the campus IT Username and Password page.)

Students can receive reference assistance 24/7 through our Online Virtual Reference chat service, email or telephone. These services are available through our Ask a Librarian page. Librarians can also be contacted at the reference desk during Reference Desk Service Hours.

Tutorials are accessible from the Library’s website to assist students with utilizing databases for research and more. Last year, CSUN librarians taught more than 26,000 students how to find credible information for their assignments through approximately 850 Library lectures.

If there are articles, books or other library materials students need, but the Library does not own, they can be requested online and obtained by the Library free of charge through our Interlibrary Loan Services.

University Library hours are extended during finals exam weeks. Students may study in the Library 24/7 during much of this time.

The university provides personal safety Matador Patrol escorts to chaperone students from the Library to their cars from dusk until 11 p.m. A police officer is available after 11 p.m. and at all other times when the Matador Patrol is not on duty. Users may contact (818) 677-5042 or (818) 677-5048 to make arrangements.
