A festival of renewal, hope, and happiness, Nowruz begins on the first day of Farvard\u012bn, the first month of the Iranian solar calendar, at the spring equinox, and continues for twelve days (Yarshater, 2005).<\/p>\n<p>At home, the haftseen table is decorated with seven items \u2013 since seven is considered a lucky number. Each item begins with the letter sin (s) in Persian, and each item is a symbol of spring and renewal, including (Fulton, 2016):<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Seeb (apple), representing beauty<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Seer (garlic), representing good health<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Serkeh (vinegar), representing patience<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Sonbol (hyacinth), representing spring<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Samanu (sweet pudding), representing fertility<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Sabzeh (sprouts), representing rebirth<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Sekeh (coins), representing prosperity<\/p>\n<p>Thank you to CSUN\u2019s Iranian Student Association (CSUN ISA) for sharing the celebration of Nowruz with our campus.
