The W3C HTML Validator

What the test does:

Your page passes if the Result reads "Passed Validation."
Passed Validation

If your page fails, you will see the message "Failed validation" and tally of the errors that need to be corrected. Do not be discouraged! One error can "domino" to create successive errors, so you may be able to clear up several problems with just one correction.
Failed validation

Each of the errors, which will be listed below the general Result information, include a linked numbers. Contribute users can better identify where the errors fall in their pages by clicking the link, which will take them to line-numbered HTML code in the bottom section of the report. For Dreamweaver users, these numbers will correspond to the line numbers they see when viewing their pages in Code View.
