Creative Media Studio

Fall 2021 Service Updates

For the Fall 2021 semester, the CMS will remain closed and only open by appointment for 3D Print submission consultations and recording studio reservations. Reservations are available during CMS limited appointment hours: Monday through Friday, 9am – 4:30pm and can be booked up to two weeks in advance. Multimedia equipment checkout has moved to the Library Technology Services desk while the CMS desk remains closed.

Virtual Workshops

Thank you to everyone who signed up and attended our Fall 2021CMS Virtual Workshops! Want to be notified when news workshops are scheduled? Have an idea for a workshop you’d like to see offered in the future? Sign up to be notified!

3D Printing

Students who wish to submit a 3D Print Submission must reserve a 30-minute consultation appointment where a CMS student assistant will review your 3D model and format the file (.STL) for printing. For more information, please visit our 3D Printing page.

Audio Recording Studio

The on-site Audio Recording Studio is available again for 3-hour per day reservations for CSUN students. Masks may only be removed when recording audio ONLY IF there is one person inside the room. If more than one person is inside the room or if the door is open, masks must be worn by all users. Reserve your spot now or check out our Recording Studio page for more details.

Equipment Checkout Renewals & Returns

Multimedia Equipment Checkout is now available for a 2-week loan at the Library Technology Services desk during their operating hours for the Fall 2021 semester.

Equipment may be renewed online through the CMS/LTS Renewal Process for an additional two weeks ONLY IF there is no hold list for the same item. For more information, visit our Multimedia Equipment Checkout page or call LTS at (818) 677-6304.

The Creative Media Studio (CMS) is a space where students of any major can have access to a variety of multimedia design and production tools, all funded by the Campus Quality Fee. As the University Library’s growing Makerspace, experimentation is encouraged and students are able to learn from their failures without penalty. Located on the Main Floor, West Wing of the Learning Commons, the CMS provides all currently enrolled CSUN students with the resources and support needed for prototyping, collaboration, and digital creation/modeling/editing at no extra cost.

Multimedia Equipment Checkout

Equipment such as cameras, tripods, audio recorders, microphones, green screens, lighting, and much more are now available again for 2-week checkout at the Library Technology Services desk with an 2-week online renewal option. However, 3-hour checkouts accessories such as MIDI Keyboards, headphones, drawing tablets, and card readers will be unavailable for the Fall 2021 semester.

3D Printing

Beginning in Fall 2016, the Creative Media Studio’s growing 3D printing program continues to be a popular service for any student needing an outlet to prototype, build, create, learn something new, or simply have fun! Available at no extra cost to current CSUN students, the CMS 3D printing program can open a door to endless possibilities.

Appointments will be required to submit a 3D print for the Fall 2021 semester. For more information on how to print, check out our 3D Printing page and start bringing your ideas to life!

Audio Recording Studio

Located inside of the Creative Media Studio, the on-site reservable audio recording room is the perfect place for those needing a space to record and produce podcasts, voiceovers, music, and more! Soundproofed and equipped with microphones, an audio interface, and audio editing software, if you are not familiar with the equipment a CMS Student Assistant can help you get started.

West Wing Computers/Software

High-end HP and iMac computers located on the Main floor, West Wing of the Learning Commons (adjacent to the Creative Media Studio) are loaded with industry standard media editing/digital design software such as the Adobe Creative Cloud, AutoCAD, and more. Computer stations will only be available on a first-come first-served basis for the Fall 2021 semester.

Creative Software Support

Need advice or recommendations for fulfilling your creative vision? Hired specifically for their extensive knowledge in creative software, the Creative Media Studio Student Assistants are available for peer-to-peer software help on supported multimedia applications and hardware. You can now get help from a CMS employee at the Library Technology Services desk while the CMS desk remains closed for the Fall 2021.
