Library Workstations Available Remotely in myCSUNsoftware

High-end library workstations have been made available through myCSUNsoftware to give CSUN students the ability to connect to two types of computers originally situated outside the Creative Media Studio. The Multimedia and Science & Engineering workstations are loaded with a full range of applications for digital creation/modeling/editing. Students are now able to access these workstations via myCSUNsoftware and utilize programs such as Adobe CC, Autodesk apps, ZBrush, ToonBoom and more!

In order to use the library remote workstations, you will need to download Citrix Workspace on your device if not already installed.

How to Download Citrix Workspace

  1. Open the Citrix Workspace download page to see the complete list of download options.
  2. Scroll down to the available downloads of Citrix Workspace.

  3. Click the arrow next to the appropriate download for your operating system and select the download that matches the operating system version you are using. You may need to click on multiple links to see their description to find the correct download for you.

  4. Run the download file onto your computer and follow the instructions on the screen. You do not need to do anything else with Citrix Workspace once it is installed. If it opens up automatically, just exit the application and proceed with the instructions.

How to Access the Library Workstations through myCSUNsoftware

  1. In order to access the workstations, you will need to open the myCSUNsoftware page and select the “LOG IN TO MYCSUNSOFTWARE” button.

  2. On the next page, login with your CSUN portal credentials.

  3. It will say to use Citrix Receiver to access your applications and desktops, however you only need Citrix Workspace to use the desktops. Therefore, Citrix Workspace is our Citrix Receiver. Select the “Detect Receiver” button.

  4. Since you already installed Citrix Workspace go ahead and click the option “Already installed” below the “Download” button.

  5. This is the window that will first pop up when opening the Citrix Workspace.

  6. Select the “DESKTOPS” tab at the top of the page and click on the down arrow below the Library Multimedia or Science & Engineering workstations to see the software available on each. Once you select on the desired workstation, click “Open” to access it.

  7. A file will begin to download onto your system. Open the download file to run it. A new window will open and you will begin connecting to the library workstation.

  8. Once connected, the CSUN computer policy notice will appear. Click the “OK” button to continue.

  9. Finally, you will be successfully logged into the workstation.

  10. To see the full list of programs, click the Start Button on the bottom left corner of the screen.

  • Be sure to SAVE any work onto your Google Drive or CSUN Box accounts frequently! DO NOT save any work to the computer itself because these remote workstations are cleared after each log off. You can find shortcuts to Google Drive and CSUN Box on the workstation desktop.

  • You may also save to USB by opening an explorer window and allowing access.

  • You can also enable access by opening the XenDesktop toolbar at the top of the screen and selecting Preferences.

  • YOU MUST SIGN OUT AFTER USE in order to disconnect from the library workstation. Please select the “Sign Out” icon located on the desktop once you complete your session.

  • Remote Workstations are only available for up to 3 hours (180 minutes) per day. You will be signed off or disconnected for the following reasons:
    • Automatic Sign Out: Session lasts over 3 hours (180 minutes)
    • Disconnected session: 30 minutes idle session with no activity
      • Automatic Sign Out: After another 5 minutes of inactivity

Basic Functions

At the top center of the window you will see a black arrow dropdown option for the XenDesktop toolbar.

Click the arrow to access basic functions such as “Ctrl-Alt-Del,” “Preferences,” and “Disconnect.”

This function gives you the ability to press Ctrl-Alt-Del on the workstation itself. You will not be able to click Ctrl-Alt-Del on your own keyboard because your keyboard is directly connected to your personal computer once you click Ctrl-Alt-Del, not the workstation.

Preferences opens up the settings of Citrix Workspace in order to interact with your device. Feel free to change the settings as you’d like them.

You may disconnect from the workstation temporarily and log back on. Please note that after 30 minutes of being disconnected you will be automatically logged off.
