Updated 1/23/2024: The California Faculty Association (CFA) strike planned for January 22-26 was cancelled as a result of a tentative agreement.
Welcome to Spring 2024, Matadors! With the new semester comes new opportunities as well as new challenges — with that in mind, this post spotlights some key resources and services to help you strive and thrive this term.
Preparing for the Semester
The start of this semester in particular brings a unique set questions for many students, especially due to the historic five-day strike planned by the California Faculty Association (CFA) alongside Teamsters Local 2010 for January 22-26, the first week of the Spring 2024 semester.
Update 1/23: The remainder of the strike has been called off and classes are expected to be back in session as of Tuesday, 1/23. Instructors should be reaching out to students to communicate current expectations for their classes during the first week, in light of the change of plans. Every class is different and will be effected differently.
In the original version of this blog post, a Student Strike FAQ from CFA was shared to help students understand the strike. There is no longer a strike this week, but students can still learn why the strike was planned by faculty.
Student organizations such as CSUN Associated Students and Students for Quality Education (SQE) at CSUN can also be a resource for up-to-date information on how faculty labor issues are effecting student learning conditions and academics.
