Katherine S. Dabbour, M.L.S.
Kathy Dabbour was appointed Interim Dean of the University Library by Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Meera Komarraju, effective August 21, 2024.
With over 30 years of experience as an academic librarian, Ms. Dabbour has been at California State University, Northridge as a tenure-line library faculty member since 2001, and has served as Associate Dean of the University Library (2016-2024), acting and elected Chair of the Research, Instruction and Outreach Services department (2010, 2014-2015), Project Director for the Library’s $1.6 million, U.S. Department of Education Title V, Developing Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSI) grant (2002-2008), and Library Assessment Coordinator (2001-2012).
Prior to her appointment in 2001, Ms. Dabbour was a lecturer librarian at CSUN, a tenure-track librarian at CSU San Bernardino, and librarian at the UCLA Biomedical Library. During the course of her career as a research and instruction librarian, she served as both a generalist and, at various times, as a STEM, law, government documents, business, communication studies, journalism, and mass communication subject specialist.
Ms. Dabbour earned her B.A. in Communication Studies (Speech Communication), with a minor in applied linguistics, at CSUN, and her Master’s in Library Science (M.L.S.) at UCLA.
Ms. Dabbour’s research interests focus on strategic planning, assessment, information literacy, and instruction in academic libraries. She serves as a reviewer for the Journal of Academic Ethics and the Journal of Academic Librarianship, and has served on numerous personnel, grant, and assessment-related committees at CSUN.
As a Matador herself, and as the daughter, sister, former wife, and mother of Matadors, CSUN represents more than an excellent education or career, it is an extension of home for Kathy, and she is grateful and honored to be appointed Interim Dean of the University Library.
