About Kris Ecklund
Kristin Ecklund, Reference and Instructional Services Department, University Library, has served with great distinction as a member of the CSU, Northridge Faculty for her entire academic career of over 36 years. She began her career at CSU, Northridge in 1971 as a Humanities librarian and remained deeply committed to the Humanities throughout her career. With tireless dedication she served as the Library’s specialist in Religious Studies, Philosophy, and several Modern Languages, providing library services to students and faculty in those disciplines, as well as building strong research collections in those subjects.
Over the course of her career at CSUN, she also served as Reference Collection Coordinator and Coordinator of the Library Instruction Program. She has always been a strong leader and advocate in the provision of electronic library services to library clientele. Additionally, she served in the highly critical role of Library liaison to CSUN’s satellite campus in Ventura County. In this capacity, she was instrumental in developing library services for what has now become CSU, Channel Islands. She has been a very active participant in faculty governance, serving frequently on the Faculty Senate, including the Faculty Senate’s Executive Committee. She served, as well, on several Senate standing Committees, including the Extended Learning Committee, which she chaired. She has been an active and contributing member to several professional associations, including the American Library Association, College and Research Libraries, and the California Library Association. Finally, Kris recently established an endowment to support reference and instructional services internships at the University Library for students in graduate library school programs, a further sign of her continuing support of the profession she loves.
