CSUN University Library Interim Dean Kathy Dabbour

As the newly appointed interim dean, this is my first “Message from the Dean” column for the University Library eNews. Continuing in the tradition of my esteemed predecessor and mentor, Dean Mark Stover, I searched for the commonalities between the five articles in this issue to identify the theme. Words like community, connection, contribution, students, critical, and friendly stood out. These words not only describe the people who work for and support the work of the Library, and the meaningful mural in honor of the Fernandeño Tataviam Band of Mission Indians by muralist Lindsay Carron described in this issue, these words also highlight the purpose of the Library: The friendly employees of the University Library connect its collections, services, spaces, information literacy and critical thinking instruction, and programming with the CSUN community, contributing to the success of its students, faculty, and scholars. As you read this issue, I invite you, the reader, to look for these six words in search of a theme as you learn more about the work of the University Library and its purpose.
