David Trutt

Last December David Trutt passed away unexpectedly. David’s son, Michael, is a graduate of CSUN, and David was considered an honorary Matador, thanks to his dedication to the University.

David had a lifelong passion for Gilbert & Sullivan, prompting his gift to the University Library of the Gilbert & Sullivan Collection. David and his wife, Sandra, also donated the two exhibit cases bearing the ceramic figurines along with annual cash gifts. In addition, upon his death the Trutt family made a generous donation to CSUN to honor David’s legacy.

Like so many remarkable Americans, David grew up poor and escaped poverty through our educational institutions. He was an engineer by training, having earned his BA at Cooper Union and MS at NYU. While working for nearly 40 years on the Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missile (AMRAAM), he nurtured the careers of countless people.

David is remembered for his brilliant mind and kind heart. He is survived by his wife Sandra, sister Millie, son Michael, and his grandsons Jacob and Zechariah.

Dean Mark Stover stated, "David did not just donate his collection – he was very generous in other ways as well, and we in the Library continue to be very grateful for the ways that David and Sandra gave back to CSUN." Dean Stover added, "Despite being an engineer... David had a sensitive side, as well as a good sense of humor... he was a straight shooter. I will miss David very much."
