Affordable Learning Superheroes Save the Day and Your Budget
Apr 18, 2025 12:00pm - 2:00pm
University Library: Jack & Florence Ferman Presentation Room
In a survey of CSUN students who participated in AL$, nearly 70% said they delay buying their required course textbooks, while 35% of students forgo buying textbooks due to cost. As libraries face limitations in purchasing course materials due to budget cuts and the evolving licensing landscape, students will be navigating even greater challenges in accessing the resources they need to succeed. This may mean the difference between graduating on time or dropping out.
Now, more than ever, we must think creatively to support our students with affordable course materials. Faculty at CSUN have already saved students over $4,000,000, and this spring, we are honoring faculty champions, including CSUN's first ever Zero Cost Pathway program, Health Administration, Chicano/a Studies, and many other departments.
Join us for a lunch & learn event, where you will be able to:
- Hear from students how textbook costs have impacted their academic and personal lives
- Meet some faculty who have incorporated low to zero cost materials into their courses without compromising quality
- Learn about research, advocacy, and grant opportunities to support textbook affordability
Faculty Showcase Presenters

Free K-12 learning materials will be available to use at the venue, and interested attendees can join tours of the popular Creative Maker Studio (featuring 3D printers, vinyl cutters, etc.) and Teacher Curriculum Center (featuring educational toys, books, and resources) at the end of the event.
