CSUN University Library invites you to participate in this year’s celebration of Día de Muertos. For more information about the history and significance about Día de Muertos, please check out the resources and links below.

During Día de Muertos, all CSUN Library members are welcome to contribute to our community altar in the lobby. We encourage you to reflect, celebrate, and honor the lives of those who have passed on by leaving a photo, adding a personal ofrenda (offering), or even writing the names of those you wish remember for the altar.

Volunteer to work on the altar

CSUN students and community members are welcome to participate in this transformative community work of creating an altar! 

Building the altar is a multi-day process. Major work in on the altar is planned to take place on:

• Wednesday 10/15 from 3 to 6pm
• Thursday 10/16 from 1:30 to 3pm
• Monday 10/20 from 1pm to 6pm
• Thursday 10/23 from 11am to 2pm

Dates and times are subject to change last minute, and some days may be added. Join our efforts in the Library lobby.

Celebrate Día de Muertos

In addition to celebrating with the Library, we encourage you to participate in Día de Muertos celebrations throughout CSUN and the San Fernando Valley.

• Canoga Park Día de los Muertos
• Tia Chucha's Centro Cultural & Bookstore: workshops and events, Oct 9 - Nov 1 (see website, Instagram, and/or linktree for registration details)
• Multiple Día de los Muertos events and activities at the Los Angeles Public Library (various branches)
• Community Altar & Cartonería Workshops at CSUN Art Galleries

Assistive Services

Requests for accommodation services (e.g. sign language interpreters or transcribers) must be made at least five (5) business days in advance. Please email library.event@csun.edu in advance of the event.
