As part of our Black History Month programming, the Oviatt Library invites students, faculty, staff and the community to attend an intimate and important discussion about justice and safety for black students in the CSUs.  We will be highlighting the stories of two CSU students, Quinten Thomas and Josiah Lawson, and how their families and communities are fighting to bring justice to their cases.  We will also provide an open forum to discuss ways in which students can advocate for their own safety and that of their peers.

Quinten Thomas was in his 4th year at CSUN studying health administration when on March 9th, 2018 he died while incarcerated at Twin Towers Correctional Facility under the supervision of the Los Angeles Sheriff 's Department.

For more information about Quinten Thomas and the advocacy work being done by his loved ones, please see the press release from Dignity, Power, Now: The Mysterious Death of Quinten Thomas Is 1 of 3 Deaths Inside Twin Towers Jail This Month – and the LASD Remains Quiet (.pdf)

Josiah Lawson, a criminology major at Humboldt State University, was at an off campus party when he was stabbed to death.  Almost two years later, little headway has been made in the case.  For more information about Josiah Lawson and the Justice for Josiah campaign, please visit the Justice for Josiah website: https://www.justiceforjosiahlawson.com

A podcast about Josiah Lawson is also available to listen at: Stronger Together - Special Episode: A conversation with Charmaine Lawson about #Justice4Josiah
