National Poetry Month 2022

Join us as the CSUN University Library celebrates National Poetry Month, and pick up a book and a poem for your pocket from our display in the Main Floor, Learning Commons.

"Launched by the Academy of American Poets in April 1996, National Poetry Month reminds the public that poets have an integral role to play in our culture and that poetry matters. Over the years, it has become the largest literary celebration in the world, with tens of millions of readers, students, K–12 teachers, librarians, booksellers, literary events curators, publishers, families, and—of course—poets, marking poetry's important place in our lives."  Learn more about National Poetry Month.

National Poetry Month Book Display

Stop by and grab a book from our book display in the Learning Commons. Discover poets old and new that may be familiar or unfamiliar. Whether you're looking for a quick read, are an avid poetry reader, or you have never read poetry before, we've curated a wide range of poetry to spark your interest. Read by yourself, outloud or quiet, share with friends, draw a poster, or paint your new favorite poem you've found. There's a lot to discover.

Poem in Your Pocket

Alongside the Book Display we will be providing quarter sheet short poems for Poem in Your Pocket. Poem in your Pocket Day is April 29th, but we are celebrating it all month. Take it, read it, put it in your pocket, share it with friends. Learn more about Poem in Your Pocket.

How to Eat a Poem by Eve Marriam

Don't be polite.
Bite in.
Pick it up with your fingers and lick the juice that
           may run down your chin.
It is ready and ripe now, whenever you are.

You do not need a knife or fork or spoon
or plate or napkin or tablecloth.

           For there is no core
           or stem
           or rind
           or pit
           or seed
           or skin
           to throw away.
