Who owns our knowledge? This year’s International Open Access Week invites us to reflect on how scholarship is created, shared, and controlled. At California State University, Northridge, faculty and students are taking an active role in shaping the future of scholarly publishing by launching their own Open Access journals.

Join us for a morning of conversation and presentations exploring how you can share your knowledge while retaining your rights. Our program will feature speakers from CSUN and the CSU who are leading journal publishing initiatives. We’ll highlight Open Journal Systems (OJS), the systemwide platform, while also sharing other publishing models and approaches. Learn about the opportunities and challenges of starting a journal, from protecting faculty rights and navigating platforms to considering how AI intersects with academic publishing.

Speakers will include CSUN faculty editors and representatives from the CSU system who will share their experiences with OJS, campus presses, and emerging models of Open Access publishing. Whether you are interested in starting a journal, contributing as an editor, or simply learning more about how Open Access empowers scholarship, this event offers valuable insights and practical guidance.

Coffee and light refreshments will be provided. All are welcome—students, faculty, staff, and anyone interested in Open Access publishing.
